Annotated: Hamilton

Written by sdperlman

Hamilton is a city of just over a half million people, at the West end of Lake Ontario. Living there means that I have to daily fight an internal compass that was trained from childhood to find south by looking for the lake.

When people ask me about living in Hamilton, it’s usually preceded with “you too, huh?”. I started teaching at Mohawk College part-time while I was still living in Toronto, but for a whole bunch of reasons, Hamilton made sense, and my partner and I made the move to Hamilton in early 2015.

I am really happy and grateful to be here. I also still feel complicated about it for a bunch of different reasons.
