annotated: “Southern Ontario”

Written by sdperlman

I have always lived in downtown parts of large urban centres on the shores of Lake Ontario. I try to acknowledge that this is a very narrow slice of Canadian (or even just Ontario) life. I am so grateful to do what I do for a living: despite the challenges, a massive benefit is the opportunity to travel and collaborate with people whose experience and definition of what it means to be “Canadian” is radically different from my own.

I’m particularly grateful to VIA Rail, whose artist-on-board program has allowed me to more meaningfully explore the vast and wildly varied Canadian landscape and to travel to places beyond my Lake-Ontario-Effect bubble.
