longform: private lessons

Written by sdperlman

if you are thinking about private lessons with me, and clicked through….

The longer answer is: yes, I teach private lessons, if you and I both think it’s a good idea. Any teacher or mentor who impacted things in my own life was the right person at the right time. I think that singing and music is a really personal process and accept and acknowledge that everyone needs something different from a teacher or mentor.

I will usually suggest that we meet once or twice before we make any kind of long-term arrangements. This is not an audition or test. It’s a chance for both of us to figure out whether I’m the best person to help. If not, never fear. I know lots of wonderful people.

I am comfortable singing with people of all ages, but believe that students of any age have to be a part of the decision to participate in music.

The last caveat is that as a freelance musician, I am not the best fit for regular weekly lessons. I will often be available for a block of weeks, and then unavailable, or out of town for periods of time. My students and I tend to work toward long-term goals with periods of regular help or coaching. If you are looking for more regular lessons, you are welcome to get in touch anyway. I’d be happy to point you in the right direction, based on what you need.
